If you’re attending my classes in Rutherfordton (or just visiting), there’s plenty to see and do here. Live music is at the top of my list, and you can find some every weekend and many times on weeknights as well. Barley’s Taproom and Pizzeria usually has music most Friday and Saturday nights, and they have about 30 craft beers on tap. On Main, down the street from Barley’s, also has live music several nights a week during warm weather. Main Street Market in Rutherfordton has trivia nights and live music frequently. The Foundation Performing Arts Center at Isothermal Community College has an annual schedule of concerts featuring well-known artists.

Rutherford County also has a wealth of tourist attractions and historical sites:

There are municipal golf courses in Forest City and Lake Lure, and the courses at Meadowbrook, Cleghorn Plantation, and Rumbling Bald are also open to the public.
Historical Main Street in Downtown Rutherfordton has several art galleries, great restaurants, antique stores, and children enjoy the KidSenses Museum. (note that unaccompanied adults are not allowed in KidSenses–you must be accompanied by children to get in as a matter of safety for your kids).

The Thermal Belt Rail Trail and the Purple Martin Greenway are great trails for getting your exercise. Kiwanis Park on Green Street in Rutherfordton is a great place for kids and has a dog park, too.
Tryon International is just a short ride through the country. In addition to being a world-class equestrian center, they also have magnificent restaurants, shops, and many events such as concerts, rodeos, and more.
